The department

Call volume doubled. Staffing didn’t.

Located in Milwaukee County, North Shore Fire Department, Wisconsin, serves seven municipalities over 25 square miles, and has experienced significant growth. For North Shore Fire, their call volume has nearly doubled since 2010 to serve their region’s 65,000 residents. As demand has increased, staffing has not kept pace.

The challenge

Every injury strained operations

Similar to other fire departments in the U.S., labor is the biggest expense. Every injury leads to more overtime, more staffing challenges, and more strain to keep operations running safely.

  • “We need to maintain a certain level of staffing to maintain our service levels to be able to respond to emergencies and requests from the public.”

The growing challenges to serve the residents of North Shore led leadership to find a better way to support their staff.

The solution

Word spread through the department

North Shore Fire Department partnered with Ready Rebound back in 2018 through a state-wide program. After an employee experienced frustration with the traditional care process, they tried Ready Rebound. Due to their positive feedback, word spread through the department like wildfire (no pun intended).

An ongoing partnership

No news is good news

As North Shore Fire continues in its almost decade-long partnership with Ready Rebound, Chief Whitaker has learned that no news is good news.

“We don’t hear anything from our employees about Ready Rebound, which is the best news you could ask for, because it means that it’s working,” said Chief Whitaker. “When you don’t hear anything, that’s a good thing.”

When asked if he would recommend Ready Rebound, the answer is a no-brainer.

“I would absolutely recommend Ready Rebound.”
